π¨β Paint the pride of Alabama and the American Navy β the USS Alabama Battleship with a WWII Corsair flyover at Mobile Bay
Massive grey steel hull glowing in warm sunlight. Towering superstructure and 16-inch gun turrets standing proud on the water. Four historic navy blue F4U Corsair fighter planes soaring overhead in a diamond formation. The American flag flying above the mast. Calm silver waters of Mobile Bay reflecting the whole scene. This is Alabama at its most patriotic and most powerful β the state's proudest monument, honoured by the sky. And it is your painting.
Hear the propellers cut the air. Feel the Gulf breeze. Let the brush find the steel. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β both are included.

β¨ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
The USS Alabama (BB-60) is a South Dakota-class battleship launched on February 16, 1942, at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Virginia. She was one of the last four "fast battleships" of the Navy, 210 metres long, 33 metres at the beam, displacing 44,500 tons at full load, and armed with nine 16-inch/45-calibre Mark 6 naval guns capable of firing a 1,225-kilogram armour-piercing shell over 32 kilometres. Alabama earned nine battle stars during World War II, participating in the North Atlantic convoy escort duty in 1942β43 before transferring to the Pacific Theatre in mid-1943. She served with distinction throughout the island-hopping campaign β Tarawa, the Marshall Islands, the Marianas, the Battle of the Philippine Sea, Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa β and was present in Tokyo Bay when Japan formally surrendered on September 2, 1945. Remarkably, in nearly three years of combat, USS Alabama never lost a single crew member to enemy fire β earning her the affectionate nickname "The Lucky A." She was decommissioned in 1947 and mothballed in the Bremerton reserve fleet in Washington State, and by 1962 the Navy planned to scrap her. That's when the state of Alabama stepped in. Alabama schoolchildren collected coins β literally β and raised nearly $1 million in nickels, dimes and quarters to save the ship. She was towed all the way from Puget Sound around Cape Horn to Mobile Bay, and Battleship Memorial Park was opened to the public on January 9, 1965. Today the USS Alabama is a National Historic Landmark, one of the most visited attractions in the state, and welcomes over 400,000 visitors a year to walk her 12 decks. The F4U Corsair aircraft depicted flying overhead is the same fighter model that flew from the decks of Navy carriers during the Pacific Campaign β the distinctive inverted gull-wing design that Japanese pilots nicknamed "Whistling Death." Every year on Veterans Day and Memorial Day, the state of Alabama holds ceremonies at Battleship Memorial Park to honour the WWII generation. The Lucky A. still stands guard on Mobile Bay 80 years after her last shot was fired.
