πŸŽ¨πŸ”οΈ Paint the roof of Europe surrounded by alpine blooms, Mount Elbrus at golden hour The massive twin snow-capped volcanic peaks of Mount Elbrus rising against a burning amber sky. Brilliant white snow-covered upper slopes glowing brilliant coral and gold in the last light. Warm cream and rust volcanic lower slopes catching sunset warmth. Warm alpine meadow in the foreground bursting with brilliant clusters of Caucasus alpine blooms, brilliant crimson red poppies, deep purple gentians, warm yellow buttercup, pink asters and warm blue forget-me-nots β€” cascading across the meadow catching the golden light. Warm ochre meadow grass. Distant snow-capped Caucasus peaks rising in warm coral silhouette on the horizon. Dense green Caucasus pine forest visible in the middle distance. Mount Elbrus at golden hour is Russia at its most sublime and most iconic β€” the highest peak in all of Europe, and the roof of the entire Caucasus. And it is your painting. Walk the flower-filled meadow at Azau. Look up at Europe's highest twin. Let the brush find the crimson. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β€” both are included. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎨 WHAT YOU GET βœ”οΈ 5 difficulty levels β€” 16, 24, 48, 72 and 96 colors β€” beginner to expert in one download βœ”οΈ 3 outline versions β€” numbered, blank and preview βœ”οΈ SVG + PDF + PNG file formats β€” print at any size without blurring βœ”οΈ Procreate colour swatches β€” drop the palette straight into your iPad βœ”οΈ HEX-coded colour palette on every page βœ”οΈ Instant digital download β€” nothing shipped ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✨ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY Mount Elbrus stands in the Caucasus Mountains of southwestern Russia, in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic near the Georgian border. At 5,642 metres, it is the highest peak in the entire Caucasus range and β€” by every standard geographic definition β€” the highest peak in all of Europe. Elbrus is one of the seven "Seven Summits" β€” the highest mountain on each of the seven continents β€” a list first popularised by American mountaineer Dick Bass in 1985. Along with Mount Everest (Asia), Aconcagua (South America), Denali (North America), Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mount Vinson (Antarctica) and Mount Kosciuszko or Puncak Jaya (Oceania), Elbrus is one of the most iconic mountains in the mountaineering world, and reaching its summit remains a rite of passage for climbers pursuing the Seven Summits challenge. Elbrus is a massive dormant stratovolcano β€” the last known volcanic eruption occurred approximately 2,000 years ago in around 50 AD. Its distinctive twin peaks are actually two separate summit craters: the western summit at 5,642 metres (the true highest point) and the eastern summit at 5,621 metres, separated by a broad saddle at approximately 5,400 metres. The volcanic slopes are covered by 22 named glaciers that together contain over 134 square kilometres of ice β€” one of the largest permanent ice caps in the entire Caucasus. Elbrus has featured prominently in Caucasus mythology and folklore for thousands of years. Ancient Greek geographers identified Elbrus with the mountain to which the Titan Prometheus was chained by Zeus as punishment for stealing fire from the gods. Local Circassian, Balkar and Karachay peoples have their own extensive folk traditions surrounding the mountain, with names for it including "Mingi-Tau" (Balkar for "Eternal Mountain") and "Oshkhamakhua" (Circassian for "Mountain of Happiness"). The first successful ascent of Mount Elbrus's eastern summit was made on July 22, 1829 by Russian mountaineer Killar Khashirov, a Circassian working as a guide for a Russian scientific expedition led by General Georgy Emmanuel. The first successful ascent of the higher western summit was made on July 28, 1874 by the British mountaineering party of Frederick Gardiner, Florence Crauford Grove, Horace Walker and Peter Knubel. Between 1935 and 1959, Soviet mountaineering clubs constructed a permanent aerial cable car system running from the small mountain village of Terskol at 2,000 metres up to the "Barrels" (Bochki) hut at 3,720 metres and onwards to the Priut 11 alpine refuge β€” making Elbrus one of the most accessible major mountaineering peaks in the world. Today approximately 15-25 mountaineers die on Elbrus every year β€” an unusually high fatality rate for a peak this height β€” largely because of the extreme accessibility of the cable car system, which allows inexperienced climbers to reach very high altitudes without proper acclimatisation. During the Second World War, in August 1942, Mount Elbrus became briefly the site of one of the most surreal events of the war: a specialised German mountain warfare division (the GebirgsjΓ€ger Edelweiss Division) succeeded in climbing to the western summit and planted the Nazi swastika flag on top β€” although the entire operation had no military significance and Adolf Hitler was reportedly furious that the troops had "wasted time" on a symbolic gesture rather than continuing the assault into the Caucasus. The lower slopes of Mount Elbrus are covered in one of the finest displays of Caucasus alpine blooms in the world, particularly between June and August. The Baksan Valley meadows below the peak, around the village of Azau, bloom with dense carpets of brilliant crimson red Caucasus poppies (Papaver bracteatum), warm yellow trollius (globeflower), deep purple gentians, and endangered Caucasian rhododendrons. Standing in an alpine flower meadow at 2,400 metres on a July afternoon, watching the twin snow-capped peaks of Europe's highest mountain catch fire against a burning Caucasus sky, is one of the most sublime landscape experiences on the entire continent. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ πŸ“₯ HOW IT WORKS 1.
