🎨🐘 Paint the gentle giant of Africa at golden hour β€” a majestic bull elephant crossing the savanna at sunset A majestic massive African bush elephant with distinctive warm charcoal-grey and warm chestnut-brown wrinkled skin and impressive warm cream-ivory curved tusks striding slowly across the golden African savanna against a burning amber sky. Warm chestnut-brown and warm charcoal elephant skin catching brilliant coral and gold in the last light in exquisite detail. Warm cream-ivory tusks catching brilliant sunset gold. Elegant warm chestnut-brown flapping ears catching brilliant coral highlights. Warm ochre-gold dry savanna grass in the foreground catching brilliant sunset warmth. Dense warm chestnut-brown acacia tree silhouettes with distinctive umbrella canopies framing the composition. Warm ochre and coral African dust catching brilliant amber sunset light. Distant warm silhouettes of a small elephant family herd walking behind in the middle distance. Warm silhouette of an African fish eagle flying dramatically above the elephant. The African elephant at sunset is Africa itself β€” the largest land animal on Earth, and the beating gentle heart of the Serengeti. And it is your painting. Walk out onto the plain at dusk. Watch the herd pass at a stately pace. Let the brush find the coral. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β€” both are included. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎨 WHAT YOU GET βœ”οΈ 5 difficulty levels β€” 16, 24, 48, 72 and 96 colors β€” beginner to expert in one download βœ”οΈ 3 outline versions β€” numbered, blank and preview βœ”οΈ SVG + PDF + PNG file formats β€” print at any size without blurring βœ”οΈ Procreate colour swatches β€” drop the palette straight into your iPad βœ”οΈ HEX-coded colour palette on every page βœ”οΈ Instant digital download β€” nothing shipped ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✨ A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS INCREDIBLE ANIMAL The African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana) is the largest land animal on Earth. A fully-grown adult male African elephant can stand up to 4 metres tall at the shoulder, weigh up to 6,000-7,000 kilograms (approximately 6-7 metric tonnes), and consume an extraordinary 150-200 kilograms of vegetation every single day β€” the equivalent of roughly 300-400 kilograms of grass, leaves, bark, and fruit consumed continuously for approximately 16 hours out of every 24-hour cycle. African elephants inhabit an enormous range across sub-Saharan Africa, from the savannas of Kenya and Tanzania to the deserts of Namibia, the forests of Central Africa, and the deltas of Botswana. They are broadly classified into two related but genetically distinct species: the African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana), which lives on the open savannas and grasslands, and the smaller African forest elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis), which lives in the dense rainforests of Central and West Africa. Both species share the same extraordinary biology, complex social structure, and legendary intelligence β€” but the bush elephant is the larger and more widely recognised of the two, and is the classic African elephant of legendary East African safari photography. African elephants are among the most intelligent animals on Earth. Their brains weigh approximately 5 kilograms β€” the largest brain of any land mammal β€” and they possess extraordinary cognitive capacities including complex tool use, elaborate emotional expression, individual recognition of hundreds of other elephants across decades of social interaction, and remarkable long-distance communication using low-frequency infrasound calls that can travel up to 10 kilometres across the African landscape. African elephants exhibit some of the most sophisticated social behaviour of any mammal species. Elephant families are matriarchal β€” led by the oldest and most experienced female, whose accumulated ecological memory guides the entire family group across generations. Families typically consist of 10-15 individuals: the matriarch, her adult daughters, and all their offspring. Adult male elephants leave their birth family group around age 10-15 and either travel alone or form loose bachelor groups. Elephant families demonstrate remarkable behaviour including deep-lasting friendships that span decades, elaborate greeting rituals when family groups meet after separation, complex forms of mourning and grief when family members die (elephants are among the very few animal species documented to consistently visit the bones of dead family members and touch and cradle these bones with their trunks for extended periods), and coordinated care and protection of orphaned calves within the family group. The distinctive massive curved warm cream-ivory tusks of the African elephant are among the largest teeth of any living animal. Tusks are actually extended incisor teeth composed primarily of dentine and covered in enamel, and they continue growing throughout an elephant's entire life. Large adult bull elephants historically produced tusks weighing over 100 kilograms each and measuring over 3 metres in length. Tragically, this same extraordinary feature has driven catastrophic conservation crises for African elephants for over 200 years. Historical ivory hunting during the 19th and 20th centuries reduced African elephant populations from an estimated 27 million individuals in the early 1800s to approximately 3-5 million by the 1970s. A devastating poaching crisis in the 1980s caused population collapse to under 600,000 individuals by 1990. Modern conservation efforts including the 1989 international ivory trade ban, expanded national park protection across East and Southern Africa, community-based conservation programmes, and dedicated anti-poaching units have stabilised populations at approximately 415,000-450,000 individuals today β€” though the species remains classified as endangered (bush elephant) or critically endangered (forest elephant) on the IUCN Red List. The African elephant plays an absolutely essential role as a "keystone species" in African ecosystems. As they roam their enormous range consuming vast quantities of vegetation, elephants create essential clearings in dense woodland (which allow grasslands and savanna habitats to develop), dig water holes during dry seasons (which provide critical water access for hundreds of other animal species), disperse seeds of dozens of native African plant species through their dung, and physically shape the African landscape at scales that no other single species can match. Without African elephants, the entire structure of African savanna ecosystems would fundamentally collapse within decades. Standing on the golden savanna at dusk in the Maasai Mara or the Serengeti at 6:30 PM on a warm October evening, watching a matriarchal family group cross the plain at their stately pace while warm coral sunset light catches their weathered warm chestnut skin and impressive warm cream tusks, is one of the most soulful and quietly transcendent wildlife experiences anywhere on Earth. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ πŸ“₯ HOW IT WORKS 1.
