πŸŽ¨πŸ—» Paint the mountain that inspired every Japanese artist for 2,000 years β€” Mount Fuji at first light The extraordinary massive perfect 3,776-metre snow-capped conical stratovolcano rising majestically against a soft pink and pale gold dawn sky β€” the most sacred and most recognisable mountain in all of Japan. Brilliant white snow-capped summit catching brilliant coral and gold in the first alpenglow. Warm ochre and rust volcanic lower slopes catching warm sunset warmth. Dense green Japanese pine forest at the base of the mountain. Warm silver-blue foreground lake perfectly reflecting the mountain and the pink dawn sky in shimmering coral and turquoise reflections. Warm cream cobblestone lake shore. Dense cascading blooming cherry blossom sakura trees with brilliant soft blush pink flowers framing the composition in the foreground catching warm dawn light. Warm silhouette of a lone Japanese photographer at the lake shore. Warm silhouettes of a Japanese couple in warm crimson and cream traditional yukata robes taking morning photos. Distant Fujigoko Five Lakes region visible in warm coral silhouette on the horizon. Mount Fuji at dawn is Japan itself β€” the sacred silhouette that defines the entire nation, and one of the most-photographed mountains on Earth. And it is your painting. Rise before dawn at Kawaguchiko. Watch the summit catch pink. Let the brush find the coral. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β€” both are included. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎨 WHAT YOU GET βœ”οΈ 5 difficulty levels β€” 16, 24, 48, 72 and 96 colors β€” beginner to expert in one download βœ”οΈ 3 outline versions β€” numbered, blank and preview βœ”οΈ SVG + PDF + PNG file formats β€” print at any size without blurring βœ”οΈ Procreate colour swatches β€” drop the palette straight into your iPad βœ”οΈ HEX-coded colour palette on every page βœ”οΈ Instant digital download β€” nothing shipped ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✨ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY Mount Fuji β€” known in Japanese as Fuji-san β€” is the highest mountain in Japan and one of the most sacred and culturally significant mountains anywhere on Earth. It rises to 3,776 metres above sea level on the border between Yamanashi Prefecture and Shizuoka Prefecture, approximately 100 kilometres southwest of Tokyo. Fuji is one of Japan's three Holy Mountains (Sanreizan) alongside Mount Tate and Mount Haku, and has been continuously venerated as a sacred mountain by both the Shinto and Buddhist religious traditions for over 2,000 years. Mount Fuji is an active stratovolcano β€” a composite volcano built up over hundreds of thousands of years by successive layers of hardened lava, volcanic ash, and pyroclastic deposits. The mountain's extraordinary geometric symmetry β€” its almost perfect symmetrical conical shape β€” is one of the most iconic mountain silhouettes anywhere in the world, and is the result of the mountain's relatively young geological age and its distinctive eruption pattern. The current Fuji is the youngest of three overlapping volcanoes that have grown on this site: Komitake volcano (extinct, over 700,000 years old), Old Fuji (Ko-Fuji, formed roughly 100,000 years ago), and New Fuji (Shin-Fuji, the current visible mountain, which began forming approximately 10,000 years ago). Mount Fuji has erupted at least 16 times in the past 2,000 years, most recently and most consequentially during the Great Hōei Eruption of December 16, 1707. The Hōei Eruption lasted for 16 days, ejected an estimated 0.7 cubic kilometres of volcanic ash and pumice into the atmosphere, deposited ash over 15 centimetres deep across most of the Kanto Plain (including Tokyo, which is 100 kilometres away), and created the distinctive small secondary crater visible on the southeastern flank of the mountain still today. Mount Fuji has not erupted since 1707 β€” 318 years of quiet β€” but Japanese volcanologists continue to closely monitor the mountain and consider it a still-active volcano capable of future major eruptions. Mount Fuji has been the single most important subject in Japanese visual art for over 1,000 years. The mountain appears throughout classical Japanese literature β€” including the 8th-century ManyōshΕ« (Japan's oldest surviving anthology of Japanese poetry), the 10th-century Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, and countless waka and haiku poetry compositions across the following millennium. But Fuji's greatest artistic expression came in the 1830s with the master ukiyo-e woodblock print artist Katsushika Hokusai. Hokusai's iconic 1830-1832 print series "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" (Fugaku SanjΕ«rokkei) β€” including the world-famous "Great Wave off Kanagawa" (Kanagawa-oki Nami Ura) β€” depicts Mount Fuji from thirty-six different perspectives across the surrounding Japanese landscape and seascape. Hokusai's series was one of the most influential artistic works in world art history and directly inspired the European Impressionist movement of the 1860s-1880s. Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec all owned copies of Hokusai's Mount Fuji prints and openly acknowledged their debt to the Japanese ukiyo-e tradition. The mountain has been a major destination for Japanese religious pilgrimage since at least the 12th century. Buddhist and Shinto pilgrims traditionally climb the mountain during the official climbing season (July to early September), reaching the summit at dawn to witness the sunrise (a spiritual experience called "goraiko" β€” "the honourable arrival of the light"). Approximately 300,000 climbers now make the ascent every summer season. Mount Fuji was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013 β€” but notably not for its geological significance. Fuji was inscribed as a Cultural Site (not a Natural Site) in recognition of its extraordinary cultural, religious, and artistic significance to Japanese civilisation over the past 2,000 years. The mountain is celebrated as an object of religious pilgrimage, artistic inspiration, and national identity β€” a mountain whose cultural meaning to Japan far exceeds its geological features. The five surrounding lakes at the northern base of the mountain β€” Lake Kawaguchi, Lake Yamanaka, Lake Sai, Lake Shoji, and Lake Motosu, collectively known as the Fujigoko or Fuji Five Lakes β€” are among the most beloved landscape photography destinations in the entire country. On the rare clear morning when the summit is snow-capped, cherry blossoms bloom around the lake shores, and the mountain reflects perfectly in the still lake water, the classic Fuji view has been called by Japanese photographers "kanpeki-na Fuji" β€” "the perfect Fuji." Standing at the shore of Lake Kawaguchi at 5:30 AM on an April morning, watching brilliant coral first light hit Fuji's snow-capped summit while cherry blossoms bloom at your feet and the entire mountain reflects perfectly in the still lake surface below, is to look directly at the sacred silhouette that has defined an entire nation's artistic and spiritual identity for 2,000 years. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ πŸ“₯ HOW IT WORKS 1.
