๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿฎ Paint the most photographed pagoda in Japan under paper lantern glow โ€” Chureito Pagoda beneath Mount Fuji at night The historic 1963 five-storey warm crimson-red and warm cream Japanese pagoda with distinctive tiered upturned pagoda roofs and warm gold ornamental finials standing on the Arakura Sengen Shrine hillside illuminated in warm amber and gold from dramatic uplighting against a deep indigo starry sky. Warm crimson pagoda catching warm amber illumination. Warm gold pagoda finials catching amber light. Brilliant white snow-capped Mount Fuji glowing luminous pale gold in the moonlight in the background. Dense cascading blooming cherry blossom sakura trees with brilliant soft blush pink flowers catching warm amber lantern illumination framing the composition. Warm gold traditional Japanese paper lanterns hung between the trees along the pagoda platform glowing warm gold in the night. Warm cobblestone pagoda platform catching warm gold lantern reflections. Warm silhouettes of a Japanese couple in warm crimson and cream evening yukata robes taking evening cherry blossom photos. Distant lights of Fujiyoshida town in warm gold below. Chureito Pagoda at night is Japan at its most iconic and most enchanted โ€” the postcard shot of Mount Fuji, and one of the most photographed views on Earth. And it is your painting. Climb the 400 steps at dusk. Watch the lanterns light. Let the brush find the crimson. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas โ€” both are included. โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ” ๐ŸŽจ WHAT YOU GET โœ”๏ธ 5 difficulty levels โ€” 16, 24, 48, 72 and 96 colors โ€” beginner to expert in one download โœ”๏ธ 3 outline versions โ€” numbered, blank and preview โœ”๏ธ SVG + PDF + PNG file formats โ€” print at any size without blurring โœ”๏ธ Procreate colour swatches โ€” drop the palette straight into your iPad โœ”๏ธ HEX-coded colour palette on every page โœ”๏ธ Instant digital download โ€” nothing shipped โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ” โœจ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY Chureito Pagoda stands on the wooded eastern hillside of Mount Arakura at 400 metres elevation, part of the Arakura Sengen Shrine complex in the town of Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture โ€” approximately 100 kilometres west of Tokyo and 25 kilometres north of the summit of Mount Fuji. The pagoda offers what is arguably the single most photographed view of Mount Fuji anywhere in Japan: the five-storey vermillion pagoda framed by cherry blossoms in the foreground with Japan's most sacred mountain rising majestically behind. Despite its ancient Japanese aesthetic, Chureito Pagoda is a relatively modern structure. The pagoda was built in 1963 as a peace memorial dedicated to the memory of 960 local Fujiyoshida residents who died in various armed conflicts during Japan's turbulent early 20th century, including the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905), the First World War, the Second Sino-Japanese War, and the Second World War. It stands within the grounds of the much older Arakura Sengen Shrine, which was originally founded in 705 AD โ€” over 1,300 years ago โ€” as one of the principal Shinto shrines dedicated to the goddess Konohanasakuya-hime (the deity of Mount Fuji and cherry blossoms). The shrine's founding predates almost every other Japanese religious institution outside the immediate Nara-Kyoto region. The pagoda itself is 19.5 metres tall and follows the traditional five-storey Japanese Buddhist pagoda architectural style โ€” five progressively smaller roof levels representing the five elements of Japanese cosmology: earth, water, fire, wind, and sky/void. Each storey is topped with elegant curved upturned Japanese tiled roof eaves painted in warm crimson-red and warm gold. The uppermost spire features a distinctive warm gold sorin ornament โ€” a traditional Buddhist pagoda finial representing spiritual ascension. Chureito Pagoda's rise to global fame occurred entirely in the digital era. For its first four decades of existence (1963-2005), the pagoda was known primarily to local Fujiyoshida residents and Japanese domestic tourists. But when Instagram launched in 2010 and the pagoda's iconic viewpoint began circulating on international travel photography sites in the early 2010s, Chureito Pagoda rapidly became one of the most-photographed locations in all of Japan. Today the site receives over 1 million visitors per year, with the peak season during the cherry blossom bloom (typically mid-April) and the autumn maple foliage (typically mid-November). The classic viewpoint requires climbing 397 stone steps up the wooded hillside from the Arakura Sengen Shrine main hall to reach the elevated observation deck. The steps are traditionally lit with warm gold traditional Japanese paper lanterns (chochin) during the spring cherry blossom festival โ€” creating one of the most magical night landscape experiences in all of Japan. On the rare clear night in April with brilliant white snow still capping the summit of Mount Fuji, cascading pink cherry blossoms in full bloom around the pagoda, and warm gold Japanese paper lanterns lighting the observation deck, the view from Chureito Pagoda has been called "the most Japanese image on Earth." Mount Fuji itself is one of the most sacred mountains in the world. At 3,776 metres, it is Japan's highest peak, an active stratovolcano (though it has not erupted since 1707), and one of the "Three Holy Mountains of Japan" alongside Mount Tate and Mount Haku. Fuji has been the subject of Japanese art, poetry, religious devotion, and cultural veneration for over 2,000 years, and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013 not for its geology but for its extraordinary cultural significance. The mountain appears in Katsushika Hokusai's iconic 1830-1832 woodblock print series "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" โ€” one of the most influential artistic works in Japanese history and the direct inspiration for European Impressionism (Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Edgar Degas all owned copies of Hokusai's Mount Fuji prints and openly acknowledged their debt to the Japanese ukiyo-e tradition). Standing on the Chureito Pagoda observation deck at 8 PM on a warm April evening, watching warm gold paper lanterns catch a five-storey vermillion pagoda while brilliant pink cherry blossoms cascade in front of Mount Fuji's moonlit summit, is one of the most quietly sacred sunrise-to-nightfall experiences on Earth. โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ”โ” ๐Ÿ“ฅ HOW IT WORKS 1.
