🎨🦁 Paint the king of the savanna with his pride at golden hour β€” a majestic African lion family resting on ochre kopjes at sunset A majestic African lion pride resting on warm ochre savanna rock kopjes at sunset. A massive warm chestnut-brown and warm ochre-gold male lion with impressive flowing warm chestnut-brown and warm charcoal mane lying majestically on the warm cream and coral limestone rock catching brilliant coral and gold in the last light in exquisite detail. Warm chestnut-brown and warm gold lion fur catching brilliant sunset warmth. Warm gold lion eyes catching brilliant amber highlights. Warm cream and warm chestnut lioness lying beside him with distinctive warm ochre-gold coat catching sunset warmth. Two warm chestnut-brown and warm cream lion cubs playing with warm cream paws in the foreground. Warm cream and coral savanna rock kopjes catching brilliant coral highlights. Warm ochre-gold dry African savanna grass surrounding the rocks catching sunset warmth. Dense warm chestnut-brown acacia tree silhouettes with umbrella canopies in the middle distance catching sunset warmth. Distant warm coral African horizon burning with brilliant sunset colour against a burning amber sky. The lion pride at golden hour is Africa itself β€” the king of beasts, the queen of the savanna, and the beating fiery heart of the Serengeti. And it is your painting. Climb the kopje at dusk. Watch the pride settle for the night. Let the brush find the ochre. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β€” both are included. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎨 WHAT YOU GET βœ”οΈ 5 difficulty levels β€” 16, 24, 48, 72 and 96 colors β€” beginner to expert in one download βœ”οΈ 3 outline versions β€” numbered, blank and preview βœ”οΈ SVG + PDF + PNG file formats β€” print at any size without blurring βœ”οΈ Procreate colour swatches β€” drop the palette straight into your iPad βœ”οΈ HEX-coded colour palette on every page βœ”οΈ Instant digital download β€” nothing shipped ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✨ A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS INCREDIBLE ANIMAL The African lion (Panthera leo) is one of the largest, most powerful, and most culturally iconic wild cats anywhere on Earth. It is one of the "Big Five" African game animals of legendary East African safari tradition, one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, and one of the most represented animals in the entire history of human art, mythology, and cultural iconography β€” spanning from the 32,000-year-old cave lion paintings of Chauvet Cave in southern France to the lion heraldry of medieval European royal dynasties, the guardian lions of Chinese and Japanese temple architecture, and the modern national symbols of dozens of contemporary African, Asian, and European nations. Adult male African lions can measure up to 3.0 metres in total length from nose to tail-tip and weigh up to 250 kilograms. Adult females (lionesses) are approximately 25 percent smaller β€” typically 2.5 metres long and weighing 130-180 kilograms. The species inhabits the sub-Saharan African savanna, grassland, and open woodland ecosystems from Kenya and Tanzania in East Africa through the greater Kalahari Basin of southern Africa. A small remnant population of Asiatic lions (Panthera leo persica) β€” approximately 700 individuals β€” persists exclusively in the Gir Forest National Park of Gujarat State, India, representing the last surviving Asian lion population after the species was hunted to regional extinction across the Middle East, Central Asia, and southern Europe during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The African lion is the only truly social species among the world's 40 living wild cat species. All other wild cats (tigers, leopards, jaguars, cheetahs, snow leopards, cougars, lynxes, and the many smaller wild cat species) live essentially solitary lives outside brief courtship encounters. But lions live in cohesive extended family groups called "prides" β€” the fundamental social and territorial unit of lion life. A typical wild lion pride consists of approximately 3-6 adult related lionesses (typically sisters, cousins, or mother-daughter pairs who remain together across their entire lives), their combined cubs and sub-adults, and 1-3 dominant adult male lions who defend the pride's territory and mating rights. Adult male lions typically leave their birth pride around age 2-3 years, often travel with brother groups called "coalitions," and challenge and displace incumbent males from established prides during 3-8 year adult ruling tenures. The distinctive flowing warm chestnut-brown mane of adult male African lions is one of the most iconic features of the entire mammalian world. Manes serve multiple biological functions: physical protection during combat with rival males, visual signalling of male status and health to potential mates, and thermal regulation across the extreme daily temperature variations of the African savanna. Individual lion manes vary extraordinarily in colour (from warm blond through warm chestnut to dark warm charcoal-black), density (from light thin manes to enormous flowing manes reaching down onto the shoulders and belly), and size β€” variation that is influenced by individual genetics, testosterone levels, age, health, and local climate conditions. Field observations across East African lion populations have documented consistent female preference for males with darker and denser manes as breeding partners β€” an important cross-species example of sexual selection driving the evolution of a specific physical trait. Lion hunting is fundamentally a group hunting activity performed almost exclusively by adult lionesses. A hunting pride typically operates as a coordinated team of 3-6 adult females who work together to stalk, encircle, ambush, and bring down prey animals that individual solitary cats could not possibly kill. Lions prey primarily on the large ungulate species of the African savanna β€” Cape buffalo, wildebeest, plains zebra, common eland, gemsbok, waterbuck, and occasionally young elephants, hippos, and giraffes. Cooperative pride hunting allows lions to successfully bring down prey animals weighing up to 1,000 kilograms β€” target species that no individual lion could safely take alone. Hunting success rates for cooperative lion prides typically range from 20 percent to 40 percent per hunt attempt β€” extraordinarily high success rates for large-carnivore predators. Adult lions require approximately 5-7 kilograms of meat per day, though they typically feed in irregular gorge-and-fast cycles (consuming up to 30 kilograms of meat during a single meal, then resting for 2-4 days before hunting again). The African lion has been culturally central to human civilization for over 32,000 years. Lion imagery appears in the earliest documented human art at Chauvet Cave (32,000 years ago), throughout ancient Egyptian religious iconography (the sphinx tradition, the lion goddesses Sekhmet and Bastet), in the biblical narratives of Daniel in the lion's den and Samson slaying the lion, throughout ancient Greek and Roman heraldic art, in the lion capitals of ancient Persian and Assyrian imperial art, throughout the lion heraldry of medieval European royal families (England, Scotland, Norway, the Netherlands, and dozens of others), and in the lion sculptures that guard Chinese and Japanese Buddhist temples across East Asia. The African lion serves today as the national animal or national symbol of at least 15 modern nations across Africa, Europe, and Asia. Modern conservation science tracks a significant decline in African lion populations over the past 30 years. Historical estimates of over 200,000 wild lions across sub-Saharan Africa in the 1970s have declined to approximately 20,000-30,000 wild individuals as of the most recent 2020 population census β€” a catastrophic 85-90 percent population decline driven by habitat loss, agricultural expansion, human-wildlife conflict, and (in some regions) illegal poaching. The African lion is now classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, with several regional West African and Central African populations classified as Critically Endangered. Contemporary conservation-linked wildlife tourism across Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia has become one of the most important protection mechanisms for wild lion populations, generating hundreds of millions of dollars per year in local conservation economies. Standing quietly on a Maasai Mara kopje at 6:30 PM on a warm August evening, watching a wild adult male lion with his magnificent warm chestnut mane lie majestically beside his lionesses and their tumbling cubs on 400-million-year-old warm cream limestone rocks while brilliant coral sunset light burns across the entire golden savanna, is one of the most spiritually powerful wildlife experiences anywhere on Earth. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ πŸ“₯ HOW IT WORKS 1.
