π¨π½ Paint the most iconic symbol of America - the Statue of Liberty at sunset over New York Harbor
The massive 93-metre copper-green statue holding her torch high glowing brilliant coral and gold in the last light against a burning magenta sky. The classic warm copper-green oxidized skin catching the sunset light. The sculpted seven-rayed crown, tablet inscribed with July IV MDCCLXXVI, and cascading robe. The warm cream stone pedestal glowing coral. Deep silver-blue New York Harbor reflecting the fiery sky. The iconic Manhattan skyline rising in soft warm silhouette on the horizon. A Circle Line tour boat passing. Liberty at sunset is New York at its most symbolic and most photographed β the postcard shot of the Empire State, and the most recognizable statue on Earth. And it is your painting.
Board the ferry from Battery Park. Watch her copper skin catch the last light. Let the brush find the coral. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β both are included.

β¨ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
The Statue of Liberty β officially Liberty Enlightening the World β stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, at the southern tip of Manhattan. She was a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, conceived in 1865 by French political thinker Γdouard de Laboulaye and designed by the French sculptor FrΓ©dΓ©ric Auguste Bartholdi. The interior iron framework was engineered by Gustave Eiffel β the same Gustave Eiffel who would later build the Eiffel Tower. Construction took nearly 21 years across two continents: Bartholdi began the copper skin in Paris in 1875 and completed it in 1884, and the entire disassembled statue was then shipped to New York in 350 individual pieces packed into 214 wooden crates. Meanwhile, the massive cream stone pedestal β designed by American architect Richard Morris Hunt and paid for entirely by private American donations gathered by newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer β was built on Liberty Island (then called Bedloe's Island). The full statue was reassembled and dedicated on October 28, 1886, by President Grover Cleveland. Total height from base of pedestal to torch tip: 93 metres. Total weight: 205 tonnes. Colossal size: her nose alone is 1.4 metres long; her hand is 5 metres long; her mouth is 91 centimetres wide. The statue's copper skin is only 2.4 millimetres thick β thinner than a modern penny β hammered by hand over wooden forms in Paris. The distinctive green colour is the result of over a century of natural oxidation of the copper surface, forming a protective layer of copper carbonate patina that actually helps preserve the statue underneath. The seven rays of her crown represent the seven continents and the seven seas. The tablet she holds is inscribed with the Roman date of July 4, 1776 β the American Declaration of Independence. The broken chain at her feet represents freedom from tyranny. Between 1892 and 1954, the statue was the very first sight for over 12 million immigrants arriving at nearby Ellis Island β the moment they knew they had arrived in America. The famous poem by Emma Lazarus inscribed at the base β "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" β was written in 1883 to raise funds for the pedestal. Today the Statue of Liberty is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1984), a U.S. National Monument (1924), and receives over 4.5 million visitors per year. Standing on the Circle Line ferry deck at sunset in October, watching 205 tonnes of copper catch fire in the last light while Manhattan glows behind, is the most quintessentially American view on the planet.
