πŸŽ¨πŸš— Paint the ghost of the Mother Road at midnight - a classic 1950s Route 66 diner glowing under blazing neon The iconic stainless steel and chrome vintage roadside diner. Brilliant red and blazing turquoise neon signage glowing warm gold and coral against a deep indigo starry sky. Warm gold light glowing from the diner windows onto the empty parking lot. A row of classic 1957 Chevy Bel Air, red Cadillac and turquoise finned cars parked outside catching neon reflections. Warm cobblestone Route 66 asphalt catching the diner glow. Warm silhouettes of patrons visible through the diner windows. Route 66 at midnight is Oklahoma at its most nostalgic and most cinematic β€” the postcard shot of the Mother Road, and the last dream of a Sooner Saturday night. And it is your painting. Pull in off the highway. Slide into a booth. Let the brush find the neon. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β€” both are included. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎨 WHAT YOU GET βœ”οΈ 5 difficulty levels β€” 16, 24, 48, 72 and 96 colors β€” beginner to expert in one download βœ”οΈ 3 outline versions β€” numbered, blank and preview βœ”οΈ SVG + PDF + PNG file formats β€” print at any size without blurring βœ”οΈ Procreate colour swatches β€” drop the palette straight into your iPad βœ”οΈ HEX-coded colour palette on every page βœ”οΈ Instant digital download β€” nothing shipped ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✨ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY Route 66 β€” legendary in American folk memory as the "Mother Road" β€” was one of the original U.S. Highway System routes, officially commissioned in 1926 as a diagonal 3,940-kilometre corridor connecting Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, passing through eight states along the way. The route was largely the vision of Cyrus Avery β€” an Oklahoma businessman known as the "Father of Route 66" β€” who lobbied for the road to be routed through Oklahoma City, Tulsa and the rural towns of the American Southwest. Over 660 kilometres of Route 66 β€” the longest single-state stretch of the entire highway β€” ran through Oklahoma, cutting through the state's small towns like Miami, Vinita, Chelsea, Claremore, Catoosa, Sapulpa, Bristow, Chandler, Oklahoma City, El Reno, Weatherford, Elk City, and Erick. During the Great Depression, Route 66 became the escape route of the American Dust Bowl β€” hundreds of thousands of Oklahoma farmers ("Okies") drove west along the highway toward California hoping for work, immortalised in John Steinbeck's 1939 novel The Grapes of Wrath, which described Route 66 as "the road of flight" and "the mother road." By the 1950s and 1960s, Route 66 had transformed into the great American vacation highway β€” the road families took west to see the Grand Canyon, the road musicians travelled to reach recording studios in California, and the road that gave America its first great motel, drive-in restaurant, and roadside neon culture. Bobby Troup's 1946 song "Get Your Kicks on Route 66" (later covered by Nat King Cole, Chuck Berry, the Rolling Stones and countless others) turned the highway into a global pop-culture icon. But by the 1960s, the new Interstate Highway System β€” authorised by President Eisenhower's Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 β€” began replacing Route 66 with modern four-lane expressways. Bypass after bypass diverted travellers away from Route 66's small towns. The final section of Route 66 was officially decommissioned on June 27, 1985 β€” after 59 years of service. Along Oklahoma's stretch of the Mother Road today, hundreds of vintage 1930s, 40s and 50s roadside relics still survive: the 1898 Round Barn in Arcadia, the 1972 Blue Whale of Catoosa, the Rock CafΓ© in Stroud, the Milk Bottle Grocery in Oklahoma City, and dozens of classic mid-century motels, diners, and neon signs β€” many of them lovingly restored by preservation groups like the Oklahoma Route 66 Association. Historic Route 66 in Oklahoma was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 and is one of the state's most-photographed cultural landscapes. Sliding into a chrome booth at a preserved Route 66 diner at midnight, with vintage neon washing red and turquoise across a lot full of finned cars and Chuck Berry playing on the jukebox, is to slip directly into the greatest era of American road culture that ever existed. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ πŸ“₯ HOW IT WORKS 1.
