π¨πͺ Paint one of the New 7 Wonders at golden hour β the Petra Treasury with a Bedouin camel caravan
Rose-red sandstone glowing coral and pink in the last light. The elaborate Hellenistic facade carved directly into the towering cliff. A small caravan of camels resting on the honey-coloured plaza. Bedouin traders in warm red and blue robes talking quietly in the shade. Deep purple shadow settling into the canyon behind them. Petra at sunset is one of the most photographed archaeological scenes on Earth β and the postcard shot of Jordan. And it is your painting.
Kneel to greet the camels. Watch the facade catch fire. Let the brush find the rose. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β both are included.

β¨ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
Petra sits deep in the mountainous desert of southern Jordan, roughly 240 kilometres south of the capital Amman, hidden inside a labyrinth of red-orange sandstone canyons that few outsiders ever found. It was the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom β a wealthy Arab civilisation of caravan traders who controlled the incense, spice and silk routes between southern Arabia, Egypt and the Mediterranean from roughly the 4th century BC to the 1st century AD. At its height, Petra was home to over 30,000 people, with an ingenious water-collection and hydraulic system of dams, cisterns and channels that turned a desert canyon into a lush oasis. The Al-Khazneh β "the Treasury" β is the most famous of the more than 800 monuments carved into the rock at Petra. It was constructed in the 1st century BC, most likely as the mausoleum of the Nabataean king Aretas IV. Its 40-metre facade was cut top-down directly into the sheer sandstone cliff face with iron chisels, and its blend of Hellenistic columns, Egyptian pediments, Greek pediments and Nabataean sculpture is unlike anything else on Earth. After the Roman annexation of Petra in 106 AD and a devastating earthquake in 363 AD, the city was slowly abandoned. For over 1,000 years it was known only to the local Bedouin tribes, who kept its location a closely-guarded secret. In 1812, Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt, disguised as a Muslim pilgrim named Ibrahim ibn Abdallah, convinced a Bedouin guide to lead him through the Siq and became the first European to see Petra in modern times. Petra was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 and voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. The Bedouin Bdoul tribe still lives around Petra today β many of them descended from families who lived inside the ancient caves and tombs for generations, and who still lead the camels that carry travellers to the Treasury at every sunset. Their coffee is still served hot in the same red sandstone shade the Nabataeans knew 2,000 years ago.
