πŸŽ¨πŸ»β€β„οΈ Paint the great white king of the Arctic with the northern lights above β€” a majestic polar bear on sea ice at sunset A majestic polar bear standing on Arctic sea ice at Arctic sunset. A massive brilliant warm cream-white polar bear with distinctive warm charcoal-black nose and warm gold eyes standing majestically on the brilliant warm cream-white and warm silver-blue Arctic sea ice against a burning coral and magenta Arctic sunset sky. Brilliant warm cream-white polar bear fur catching brilliant coral and gold sunset warmth in exquisite detail with beautiful visible texture. Warm charcoal-black polar bear nose catching brilliant coral highlights. Brilliant warm gold polar bear eyes catching brilliant amber highlights. Brilliant warm cream Arctic sea ice with silver-blue cracks in the foreground catching brilliant coral sunset reflections. Warm silver-white polar bear breath vapour visible in the freezing air. Brilliant warm silver-blue Arctic ocean water visible between ice floes catching brilliant coral sunset reflections in shimmering coral and pink reflections. Dramatic warm coral Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) beginning to appear in the deep indigo sky above the sunset. Distant snow-capped Arctic mountains rising in soft coral silhouette on the horizon catching brilliant sunset warmth. Warm silhouette of two polar bear cubs playing behind their mother in the middle distance. Distant warm silhouette of an Arctic seal on a distant ice floe. The polar bear at Arctic sunset is the top of the world itself β€” the largest land carnivore on Earth, and the beating white heart of the frozen north. And it is your painting. Stand on the pack ice at 6 pm. Watch the aurora begin to rise. Let the brush find the coral. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β€” both are included. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎨 WHAT YOU GET βœ”οΈ 5 difficulty levels β€” 16, 24, 48, 72 and 96 colors β€” beginner to expert in one download βœ”οΈ 3 outline versions β€” numbered, blank and preview βœ”οΈ SVG + PDF + PNG file formats β€” print at any size without blurring βœ”οΈ Procreate colour swatches β€” drop the palette straight into your iPad βœ”οΈ HEX-coded colour palette on every page βœ”οΈ Instant digital download β€” nothing shipped ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✨ A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS INCREDIBLE ANIMAL The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is the largest land carnivore on Earth and one of the most extraordinary ecological specialists in the entire mammalian world. Adult male polar bears can measure up to 3.0 metres in total length from nose to tail-tip when standing upright on their hind legs, and typically weigh 350-700 kilograms. The largest documented wild polar bear on record β€” a massive male shot in northwestern Alaska in 1960 β€” weighed an extraordinary 1,002 kilograms and measured 3.4 metres tall when standing upright. Adult females are approximately 50 percent smaller, typically weighing 150-300 kilograms. Polar bears inhabit the Arctic sea ice and coastal regions of five nations that share Arctic Ocean coastline: the United States (Alaska), Canada, Russia, Norway (Svalbard archipelago), and Greenland (Denmark). The species evolved directly from brown bears approximately 500,000 years ago as an evolutionary adaptation to the emerging Arctic sea ice ecosystem β€” one of the most rapid mammalian speciation events documented anywhere in the natural world. Polar bears are extraordinarily specialised for Arctic sea ice survival. Every aspect of their anatomy, physiology, and behaviour represents extreme adaptations to one of the most hostile environments anywhere on Earth. Their distinctive brilliant warm cream-white fur is composed of hollow transparent hair shafts that trap warm air against the skin, providing extraordinary insulation against Arctic temperatures as low as minus 46 degrees Celsius. Beneath the fur, a thick warm charcoal-black skin absorbs solar radiation, and beneath the skin, a layer of subcutaneous fat 10-11 centimetres thick provides both thermal insulation and metabolic energy storage. Polar bears' distinctive massive paws β€” up to 30 centimetres in diameter β€” function as natural snowshoes for walking across snow and thin ice, and as powerful swimming paddles for the polar bear's extraordinary underwater hunting behaviour. Polar bears are actually classified by marine biologists as marine mammals β€” one of only two truly aquatic bear species anywhere in the world (the other being the smaller North American black bear population of Kermode Island, British Columbia). Individual polar bears have been documented swimming continuously for over 400 kilometres across open Arctic Ocean water in a single expedition β€” an extraordinary feat of physical endurance made possible by the polar bear's unique swimming physiology. Polar bears are primarily seal hunters. Their preferred prey species is the ringed seal (Pusa hispida) β€” the smallest Arctic seal species β€” which polar bears hunt with an extraordinary combination of strategies. During spring and summer, polar bears wait patiently beside seal breathing holes in the ice pack, sometimes for hours or even days at a time, and ambush seals as they emerge to breathe. During winter, polar bears hunt by breaking into snow-covered seal birthing lairs constructed above the ice. During autumn, polar bears swim between ice floes searching for basking seals. Adult polar bears require an average of approximately 1 seal per week, or approximately 43-88 kilograms of seal blubber and meat per week β€” an enormous food requirement that depends absolutely on the annual maintenance of Arctic sea ice as a hunting platform. Polar bears have exceptional cold tolerance, but they cannot survive without sea ice. When Arctic sea ice extent declines during summer, polar bears must swim increasingly long distances between remaining ice patches, are unable to hunt seals effectively without sea ice hunting platforms, and rapidly deplete their body fat reserves. Adult polar bears typically enter summer months with body fat comprising up to 50 percent of their total body weight, and gradually lose weight throughout the summer months until the autumn refreezing of Arctic sea ice enables renewed hunting. Female polar bears face the most extreme energy constraints of any adult land mammal on Earth. Pregnant females enter maternal snow dens in October-November, give birth in December-January (typically to twin cubs weighing only 600-700 grams at birth), and remain confined to their snow den throughout the entire Arctic winter β€” nursing their cubs without eating, drinking, urinating, or defecating for a continuous period of approximately 4-5 months. When the mother-and-cub family emerges from the maternal den in March-April, the mother has typically lost 40-45 percent of her total body weight during the fasting period. Polar bears hold profound cultural significance for Arctic indigenous peoples β€” particularly for the Inuit, Yupik, Chukchi, and Sami peoples who have shared the Arctic ecosystem with polar bears for over 4,000 years. Inuit traditional oral history and religious practice treats the polar bear (nanuq in Inuktitut) as one of the most spiritually powerful animals of the Arctic world β€” sometimes appearing in traditional stories as a shapeshifting being capable of walking as either a bear or a human. Traditional Inuit hunting law requires that a hunted polar bear's soul be treated with elaborate ceremonial respect for approximately 5-7 days after the hunt to ensure that the bear's spirit will willingly return to the human world in a future hunt. The polar bear has become one of the most powerful contemporary symbols of climate change concern anywhere in the world. Arctic sea ice extent has declined by approximately 40 percent since satellite records began in 1979, with particularly dramatic ice loss occurring during summer months. Contemporary polar bear populations across their Arctic range are approximately 22,000-31,000 individuals, and the species is classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List with all 19 subpopulations facing significant projected declines due to continuing Arctic warming. The polar bear has been listed as a threatened species under the U.S. Endangered Species Act since 2008 β€” one of the first species to be officially listed specifically due to climate change impacts on habitat. Standing on Arctic sea ice near Churchill, Manitoba, or in the Svalbard archipelago at 6:45 PM on a cold October evening, watching a massive wild polar bear stride slowly across pristine cream-white ice while brilliant coral sunset light burns across the frozen ocean and warm coral Aurora Borealis begins to shimmer in the darkening sky above, is one of the most spiritually powerful and quietly transcendent wildlife experiences anywhere on Earth. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ πŸ“₯ HOW IT WORKS 1.
