π¨πΊ Paint the last surviving Ancient Wonder of the World β the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx at golden hour
Three massive pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure rising against a burning amber and orange desert sky. The enigmatic Great Sphinx gazing eastward toward the sunrise with warm golden light on its weathered stone face. Warm honey sandstone catching the last light. Deep blue shadow settling into the desert. A small caravan of camels crossing the sand in silhouette. The Pyramids at golden hour are the oldest surviving Wonder of the World β and one of the most breathtaking scenes on Earth. And it is your painting.
Feel the desert cool with the last light. Listen to the camel bells. Let the brush find the gold. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β both are included.

β¨ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
The Great Pyramids of Giza stand on the Giza Plateau, on the western bank of the Nile just outside Cairo β the oldest of the classical Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one still standing. The three main pyramids were built as royal tombs for three pharaohs of the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom: Khufu (Cheops), his son Khafre (Chephren), and his grandson Menkaure (Mycerinus), constructed successively between roughly 2580 BC and 2510 BC β nearly 4,600 years ago. The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest of the three and the largest pyramid ever built: originally 146.6 metres tall (now 138.5 metres after the loss of its gleaming white limestone casing), constructed from an estimated 2.3 million blocks of stone weighing between 2 and 80 tonnes each. For nearly 3,800 years, from the day of its completion until the top of Lincoln Cathedral was raised in England in 1311 AD, the Great Pyramid was the tallest structure on Earth. The alignment of the pyramids is astonishingly precise: the four sides of the Great Pyramid are oriented to true north within a fraction of a degree, an accuracy modern surveyors still find astonishing. The Great Sphinx β a colossal limestone statue with the body of a lion and the head of a man, carved from a single natural bedrock outcrop β sits guarding the eastern approach to the pyramids. At 73 metres long and 20 metres tall, it is the largest monolithic statue in the world, believed to have been sculpted around 2500 BC during the reign of Khafre and possibly bearing his portrait. Its nose has been missing since at least the 15th century; the popular story that Napoleon's soldiers shot it off is a myth. Once the surrounding land was fertile Nile farmland; today the plateau sits on the edge of the modern Cairo metropolitan area, and the pyramids are visible from the suburbs. The Pyramids of Giza were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, and named one of the "Honorary" wonders when the New Seven Wonders of the World were voted in 2007 β because a monument that has stood for 4,600 years is not something you replace. Standing on the desert plateau at golden hour, watching the sun set behind Khufu's pyramid the same way Egyptian priests watched it 45 centuries ago, is one of the oldest experiences a human being can still have on this planet.
