πŸŽ¨πŸ•Œ Paint the mosque rebuilt from ashes after 452 years β€” Kul Sharif in Kazan Kremlin at night The majestic reconstructed 2005 Islamic mosque with its brilliant white marble facade, elegant classical arches and distinctive cluster of four warm cobalt-blue and gold-tipped white marble minarets and massive central turquoise-and-gold dome glowing brilliant amber and warm gold from dramatic uplighting against a deep indigo starry sky. Brilliant white marble facade glowing warm cream in the illumination. Brilliant cobalt-blue and gold Islamic geometric mosaics on the dome catching the amber light. Brilliant warm gold crescents at the tops of each minaret catching light. Warm cobblestone Kazan Kremlin plaza in the foreground catching light spill. Warm gold reflections shimmering on wet cobblestones. Warm silhouettes of a few late evening visitors. Distant warm cream Kazan Kremlin walls and warm gold SΓΆyembikΓ€ Tower illuminated in warm amber. Kul Sharif at night is Tatarstan at its most reverent and most spectacular β€” the postcard shot of the Volga's Muslim heart, and a mosque resurrected from history. And it is your painting. Cross the Kremlin plaza after dark. Watch the minarets catch amber. Let the brush find the cobalt. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β€” both are included. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎨 WHAT YOU GET βœ”οΈ 5 difficulty levels β€” 16, 24, 48, 72 and 96 colors β€” beginner to expert in one download βœ”οΈ 3 outline versions β€” numbered, blank and preview βœ”οΈ SVG + PDF + PNG file formats β€” print at any size without blurring βœ”οΈ Procreate colour swatches β€” drop the palette straight into your iPad βœ”οΈ HEX-coded colour palette on every page βœ”οΈ Instant digital download β€” nothing shipped ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✨ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY The Kul Sharif Mosque stands inside the walls of the Kazan Kremlin in the city of Kazan β€” the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, a semi-autonomous Turkic-Muslim republic within the Russian Federation. Kazan is one of the most important cultural and religious centres of the Volga-Ural region and has been continuously inhabited for over 1,000 years, sitting strategically at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka rivers approximately 800 kilometres east of Moscow. The original Kul Sharif Mosque was constructed in the 16th century as the main congregational mosque and centre of Islamic scholarship of the Kazan Khanate β€” an independent Muslim Tatar state that had emerged after the fragmentation of the Golden Horde in 1438. Under Kazan Khanate rule, the mosque was named in honour of Kul Sharif, the last Kazan Khanate court Imam and the head of the mosque, who is remembered in Tatar history as a poet, religious scholar, and diplomat. Kul Sharif was killed defending the mosque during the Russian siege of Kazan in October 1552. The siege was led by Tsar Ivan the Terrible, who conquered the Kazan Khanate and permanently annexed it to Russia. During the sack of Kazan, Ivan the Terrible personally ordered the complete destruction of the original Kul Sharif Mosque β€” every stone was removed and the site razed to the ground. Some of the original stone was later transported to Moscow and reportedly incorporated into the construction of St Basil's Cathedral (completed 1561) β€” the iconic multi-domed cathedral on Red Square that Ivan commissioned specifically to commemorate his 1552 victory over the Kazan Khanate. For the next 452 years, no mosque stood on the site inside the Kazan Kremlin. In 1996, following the collapse of the Soviet Union and Tatarstan's negotiation of a special semi-autonomous status within the Russian Federation, the Tatarstan government announced that the Kul Sharif Mosque would be rebuilt on its original site inside the Kremlin β€” as a symbol of Tatar cultural and religious revival. The reconstruction project was funded by contributions from the Tatarstan government, private Tatar donors, and Muslim countries including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey and the UAE. Construction began in 1996 and was completed on July 24, 2005, in time for the 1,000th anniversary celebrations of the founding of Kazan. The new Kul Sharif Mosque is one of the largest mosques in Europe β€” the main prayer hall accommodates 1,500 worshippers inside, and the surrounding plaza can hold up to 10,000 additional worshippers during major religious observances. The mosque features four minarets each rising 55 metres tall, a central turquoise-and-gold main dome inspired by Timurid and Ottoman Islamic architectural traditions, and interior mosaics, calligraphy and gilded ornamentation created by master craftsmen from Turkey, Iran and Uzbekistan. The mosque was inscribed alongside the entire Kazan Kremlin ensemble as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000 β€” the entire Kazan Kremlin is one of the very few UNESCO sites in the world where a functioning historic Christian Orthodox cathedral (the Annunciation Cathedral, 1562) and a functioning historic mosque (Kul Sharif, 2005) stand together within the same walled fortress as active places of worship of both religions. Approximately 50% of Tatarstan's 4 million residents identify as Muslim (predominantly Sunni), and Kul Sharif has become one of the most-visited mosques in all of Russia. Standing on the Kazan Kremlin plaza on a summer evening at 10 PM, watching the illuminated white marble minarets rise 55 metres against the deep indigo Volga River sky exactly where the original 16th-century mosque stood before Ivan the Terrible destroyed it, is one of the most quietly powerful cultural experiences in modern Russia. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ πŸ“₯ HOW IT WORKS 1.
