🎨⭐ Paint the shrine of Texas liberty β€” The Alamo Mission with the San Antonio Riverwalk beyond The classic historic 1744 Spanish Colonial mission facade with its distinctive curved parapet, warm cream limestone walls glowing warm coral in the afternoon light against a bright cobalt Texas sky. Dense green live oaks with Spanish moss framing the composition. Warm cobblestone Alamo Plaza in the foreground. The deep green cypress-lined San Antonio River Riverwalk visible curving through downtown San Antonio in the middle distance. Warm cream and coral historic San Antonio downtown buildings. Warm silhouettes of tourists strolling. The Alamo at midday is Texas at its most legendary and most sacred β€” the postcard shot of the Lone Star State, and the birthplace of Texas independence. And it is your painting. Cross Alamo Plaza. Touch the limestone. Let the brush find the coral. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β€” both are included. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎨 WHAT YOU GET βœ”οΈ 5 difficulty levels β€” 16, 24, 48, 72 and 96 colors β€” beginner to expert in one download βœ”οΈ 3 outline versions β€” numbered, blank and preview βœ”οΈ SVG + PDF + PNG file formats β€” print at any size without blurring βœ”οΈ Procreate colour swatches β€” drop the palette straight into your iPad βœ”οΈ HEX-coded colour palette on every page βœ”οΈ Instant digital download β€” nothing shipped ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✨ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY The Alamo β€” officially Mission San Antonio de Valero β€” stands at the heart of downtown San Antonio, Texas, on the plaza that bears its name. It was originally founded as a Spanish Franciscan mission on May 1, 1718, by Fray Antonio de Olivares and a small group of Coahuiltecan Native American converts, making it one of the oldest European-founded settlements in the entire American Southwest. The current stone church facade β€” the iconic curved parapet visible today β€” was constructed between 1744 and 1758 by Franciscan padres using local caliche limestone quarried from the San Antonio River banks. The mission was secularized by the Spanish crown in 1793, and its Native American residents were absorbed into the surrounding town. In the early 1800s, the compound was converted into a Spanish military garrison β€” the Second Flying Company of San Carlos de Parras from the town of Alamo de Parras in Coahuila, Mexico. It was this military company that gave the mission its enduring nickname: El Alamo (Spanish for "the cottonwood"). On February 23, 1836, roughly 100–200 Texian and Tejano defenders β€” including frontier legends Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and their commander Lieutenant Colonel William B. Travis β€” barricaded themselves inside the Alamo compound and refused to surrender to the advancing 1,500-man army of Mexican President and General Antonio LΓ³pez de Santa Anna. For 13 days, the defenders held out. On the morning of March 6, 1836, at approximately 5:30 AM, Santa Anna's forces launched a full-scale assault on the compound. The battle lasted roughly 90 minutes. Every single Alamo defender β€” including Crockett, Bowie and Travis β€” was killed. Santa Anna ordered the bodies burned in a mass funeral pyre outside the walls. But the sacrifice was not in vain. News of the massacre galvanised Texian resistance across the Republic. Six weeks later, on April 21, 1836, Texian General Sam Houston surprised Santa Anna's army at the Battle of San Jacinto near modern Houston, defeating the Mexican forces in just 18 minutes while his men shouted the immortal battle cry: "Remember the Alamo!" Texas won its independence, and Sam Houston became the first President of the Republic of Texas. The Alamo compound was purchased by the State of Texas in 1883 and has been operated as a state historic site ever since β€” since 2011 by the Texas General Land Office. Along with four other 18th-century Spanish colonial missions in San Antonio, the Alamo was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015 β€” the first UNESCO site in Texas. Over 2.5 million visitors pass through the Alamo compound every year, making it the most-visited historic site in Texas. Just three blocks away, the San Antonio Riverwalk β€” a network of pedestrian walkways along the San Antonio River β€” was developed beginning in 1929 to architect Robert H. H. Hugman's designs and today serves as the second-most-visited attraction in Texas, drawing over 14 million people annually. Standing quietly in Alamo Plaza at midday, looking at 275-year-old limestone walls where 200 men chose to die rather than surrender, and hearing the murmur of the Riverwalk cypresses just three blocks beyond, is to stand at the beating heart of the state of Texas. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ πŸ“₯ HOW IT WORKS 1.
