π¨β Paint one of the greatest harbours in the world β Valletta's Grand Harbour at golden hour
From the Upper Barrakka Gardens, 60 metres above the water, the Grand Harbour opens below you like a painting that already exists. The Three Cities glow warm honey limestone across the water. Fort St Angelo rises on its ancient promontory. A cruise ship and a traditional Maltese luzzu cross the harbour in opposite directions. The Mediterranean stretches beyond to the horizon. This is the view the Knights of St John built an entire fortified capital to protect β and at golden hour, it is one of the most breathtaking panoramas in Europe. This is your painting.
Pour something Maltese. Let the brush find the honey stone. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas β both are included.

β¨ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
Valletta was built in 1566 by Jean de Valette, Grand Master of the Knights of St John, following the Great Siege of Malta in 1565 β when a force of 700 knights and 8,000 Maltese soldiers held off an Ottoman army of 40,000 for four months. It was the first planned city of the Renaissance, designed from scratch on a grid of streets and built entirely from the golden limestone that gives Malta its distinctive warm glow. Valletta is the smallest national capital in the European Union β less than one square kilometre β and the most densely populated. Every stone in the Grand Harbour's fortified walls was quarried by hand. UNESCO listed the entire city as a World Heritage Site in 1980. The Grand Harbour has sheltered Phoenician traders, Roman fleets, the Crusades, Napoleon, and the Royal Navy. In 2018, Valletta was the European Capital of Culture. The view from Upper Barrakka Gardens has not changed in 400 years. β
