🎨🌲 Paint the oldest living cathedral in California - the Mariposa Grove giant sequoias in Yosemite Cinnamon-red trunks the size of church towers. Thousand-year-old giants standing shoulder to shoulder in a silent grove. Golden shafts of morning sunlight filtering through the branches. Deep green ferns and dogwood on the forest floor. Silver mist curling between the trees. The Mariposa Grove is Yosemite at its most sacred — home to over 500 mature giant sequoias, some of them nearly 3,000 years old and among the largest living things on Earth. And it is your painting. Step into the grove. Look up. Let the brush find the cinnamon. Paint it on your iPad or print it and paint on canvas — both are included. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✨ A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY The Mariposa Grove holds more than 500 mature giant sequoias (Sequoiadendron giganteum) — a species that only grows on the western slope of California's Sierra Nevada at elevations between 1,400 and 2,150 metres. Giant sequoias are the largest single-stem living things by volume on Earth: the biggest specimens weigh over 1,800 tonnes and stand more than 75 metres tall. The oldest tree in the grove — the Grizzly Giant — is estimated at 2,700 to 3,000 years old, meaning it was already a mature tree when the pyramids at Giza were still new. On June 30, 1864, in the middle of the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant Act, protecting Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of Big Trees "for public use, resort, and recreation… inalienable for all time." It was the first time in history any government had set aside wild land purely for its own sake — and it became the founding legal precedent for every national park that came after, anywhere in the world. Yosemite officially became a national park in 1890, and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. The giant sequoias have evolved to depend on wildfire — their cones only open in extreme heat, and the thick bark protects them from flames. Some of the trees standing in the grove today have already lived through more than 100 forest fires. They will outlive us. They will outlive our great-grandchildren. Stand at the base of the Grizzly Giant, and you are standing next to something that has been alive since the Bronze Age. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📥 HOW IT WORKS 1.
